A Free, Family Christmas Trail Brings Characters to Life in Southend

This festive season, families in Southend-on-Sea can enjoy a magical day out with Southend City BID’s virtual Christmas character trail.

As part of local Christmas celebrations, Southend City BID have teamed up with High Street Safari to run an exciting virtual family trail. Children can watch as characters come to life in business windows throughout the city through digital QR codes. This magical experience is an ideal free festive activity for families; anyone with a smartphone is able to take part, whilst players can not only hunt down missing Christmas presents but also make interactive story choices every step of the way.

Southend City BID hope this event encourages families to visit Southend and get the kids out of the house and walking; parents busy doing their Christmas shopping will be able to keep their little ones entertained, whilst children can become fully immersed in the City’s festivities.

This trail’s characters will be located at ten stops throughout the City Centre, encouraging players to discover fantastic parts of Southend. Families will be guided on their trip by The Luminauts, a team of superheroes, as they find lost presents and conclude this Christmas story.

Southend City BID’s exciting Christmas trail takes approximately forty-five minutes to complete and can be finished across more than one visit. It is completely free, with players winning a digital fun pack upon completion.

When taking part, families will not need to download or sign up for anything. This trail has also been designed so that there is no need to go inside the venues, but popping in to get your Christmas list sorted is encouraged.

Southend City BID’s virtual character trail will begin on the 19th of November 2022 and will end on December 31st. This will form part of their fantastic Christmas switch-on event, where guests will be treated to a variety of fantastic performances and seasonal offerings.

Discussing Southend City BID’s decision to host this virtual trail, BID Manager Suzanne Gloyne says:

‘Every year we work passionately to host unique Christmas events for our community – including children who love taking part in magical experiences. This virtual trail felt perfect for little ones, as it’s an immersive and fantastical experience that lets their imaginations run wild! Peaking at shop windows and seeing virtual characters come to life is certainly exciting, we can’t wait to see it bring smiles to children’s faces this Christmas.’

If you are planning to visit Southend-on-Sea this weekend, don’t miss out on all of the incredible Christmas events that will be filling the city centre; more information can be found on Southend City BID’s website, www.southendbid.com.
