southend's BUSINESS crime

reduction database

DISC is a unique information-sharing system that’s helping drive down low-level crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB) across Southend. It allows you to ‘self-manage’ low-level crime and ASB, and enables police to work with you to deliver a new kind of effective, joined-up community policing.

Disc is used in more than 450 towns and cities, as well as by shopping centres, major retailers, sports venues, security companies and the police. Each implementation can link together into flexible networks to exchange information locally, regionally or nationally.

By regularly logging into the DISC system as a BID member you are sure to be kept up to date with important information to help keep your business safe and secure.

For those of you who are members but are not logging on, please do so! It is a secure, members only facility that is designed for use by both day and night-time economy-related businesses. Reports are gathered in order to build up a case for Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) applications against prolific individuals; the more intel stored, the better chance the crime prosecution teams have of gaining a conviction.

Yourself and your staff can also use DISC for identification purposes, to receive alerts of targeted individuals and learn of upcoming events related to retail crime, rough sleeping, begging and anti-social behaviour - all of which are affecting the High Street daily.

DISC is not just a crime reduction database; news, events, training, user guides and important information from partner agencies are also added to the system periodically.

In addition to this, DISC users have the means of accessing its Instant Messages (IM) function which allows information to be shared quickly with other users with use of the app.

To set up, simply:

1. Download the DISC app via iTunes or Google Play depending on the device

2. Log in using your existing details (the same used to log in on desktop)

3. After being prompted, create a 4-digit pin

4. Use this code to log into the app thereafter

To send and receive direct messages, please ensure that push notifications are activated in settings. Please be advised that users have overall control of messages sent because they are stored on the system, not devices and therefore do not cause detriment to the Data Protection Act.

To be added as a member, please email hello@southendbid.com.
