Southend city centre is officially stepping into Christmas with the installation of two spectacular trees, proudly brought to the community by Southend City BID.

On Sunday 2nd November, the city welcomed the arrival of the two Norwegian spruce trees which book end the High Street. A towering 40-foot tree has been placed in Victoria Circus and a 20-foot tree features in Royals Square.

The festive installations are completed by the start of November each year to ensure the city centre is transformed in time for the much-anticipated Big Switch On event – taking place this year on Saturday 15th November 2025. The trees perfectly complement the previously installed lighting scheme that festoons the High Street, setting the stage for a magical season of Christmas in the City celebrations.

Suzanne Gloyne, Southend City BID Manager, said:

“We’re so excited to be able to bring two trees to the city centre for 2025. Our Switch On Event will take place on the 15th November and will feature a full day of activities which will really kickstart the festive period! We will have entertainment and performances from 1pm, with the Christmas tree and light switch on at 6pm – don’t miss it!”

The Switch On Event promises to be a highlight of the festive calendar, with live performances, family-friendly entertainment, and community celebrations throughout the day. The grand finale will see the city’s Christmas lights and trees illuminated at 6pm, officially marking the start of Southend’s festive season.

Southend is ready to welcome residents and visitors to enjoy shopping, dining, and seasonal events.
