HARP set to be Charity Partner at Southend’s Big Switch On

With just two weeks to go until the exciting Big Switch On event returns, Southend City BID is pleased to announce HARP as the official charity partner.
Taking place on Saturday 15th November 2025, Southend city centre will come alive with festive cheer as the annual Christmas in the City celebration returns, promising a full day of family friendly entertainment. From live performances and roaming characters to craft activities and the magical storytelling bus, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
HARP, a homelessness charity based in Southend, will use the event to raise funds to provide housing, advice, and support to those in need this Christmas.
Vanessa Hemmings, CEO of HARP said:
"We're thrilled to have been selected as the charity partner for this year's Southend Switch On event. HARP supports nearly 1,000 people each year, and we can only do this thanks to the outstanding support of our community. All funds raised through the event will go directly towards our 'A Home For Christmas' appeal, which through our Bradbury Day Centre on York Road, provides essentials like hot meals, warm clothing, and gifts to people experiencing homelessness in Southend this winter.”
Suzanne Gloyne, Southend City BID Manager, added:
“It’s great to have HARP on board as our charity partner for the Big Switch On. Homelessness is a challenge that no one should have to face, especially during the festive season. By joining the event, we can help raise awareness and support for those in need whilst celebrating the joy that Christmas brings to our city.”
With support from sponsors, Southend Theatres, the Southend Big Switch On event promises to be a magical day for all ages featuring markets, crafting, and performances throughout the day. It’s set to be a fantastic celebration of Southend’s community spirit with BBC Essex hosting from 1pm and the Rock Choir leading a sing-along just before the Big Switch On at 6pm.
