According to a recent shopping report by High Streets Task Force partner, Maybe*, Christmas is still on the cards for 2020 as 71% of respondents to their online survey stated it is ‘Christmas as usual’ despite the ongoing restrictions and measures. In fact 65% of shoppers claimed that they were about to, or had already started, their Christmas shopping.
That’s not to say that our high street shops can let out a sigh of relief. Over half of shoppers said they had safety concerns about searching for those perfect gifts in their high streets and as a result 58% of people plan to shop online.
In recent weeks a new shop local campaign for Southend has launched to try and turn figures such as these around for our town. Businesses are keeping on top of the changing guidelines, utilising the COVID alert level information and frequently reviewing their risk assessments to ensure staff and customer safety is prioritised.
By following the ‘hands, face, space’ rules, everyone can continue to safely enjoy the variety of shops, restaurants and attractions that we have in Southend. Starting your gift shopping early ensures you’ll miss the crowds and can enjoy the run up to the big day without the usual panic!
Or if you’d rather not spend a day coasting through the aisles then you can shop online and opt to collect in store. All you then have to do is park, quickly pick up your assembled goods from each store and then head home with the smug satisfaction of having finished your gift shopping in one hit.
Be it browsing the aisles or choosing to click and collect, whichever route you choose you will be supporting your local Southend high street through this tough period so that they are here for you to enjoy when this pandemic is over. Shop local this festive period, shop Southend.
