The Bunting Flies

w/c 3 August 2020

We Brits seem to have a fascination with bunting which does not appear to be rivalled elsewhere in the world. For a product that started off on board navy ships to communicate with other nearby boats, it has done exceptionally well to elevate itself to an almost iconic decorative accessory across the country.

Last weekend Southend BID hoisted one thousand metres of this enjoyable decoration high above our high street with the flags being festooned from column to column. The usual spring installation date was delayed due to the pandemic restrictions but the colourful decoration has now been raised again to give the main shopping and dining area of the town a new lease of life as more businesses continue to re-open.

After months of closures the bunting scheme will play its part in drawing in more shoppers and diners to enjoy the town centre at a time when businesses need it the most. Add in a mixture of sunny weather and a two for one parking offer in selected council car park then there really is no reason to shop and spend outside of Southend, especially over the next few weeks and months.

The new car parking promotion also includes free parking after 4pm. This means that if you plan ahead you could pay for one hour of parking at 2pm and park for free for the rest of the day! The new promotion is applicable seven days a week in eligible car parks and lasts until the 30th September – so make the most of it and shop locally.
