Southend City Centre businesses came together on Tuesday 8th July to support a community clean-up initiative led by Southend City Business Improvement District (BID). The event saw volunteers take part in an hour-long litter pick, working to keep the city centre clean, welcoming, and vibrant for all those that live, work, and visit.

Staff members from NatWest, Co-Op Bank, Co-Op Funeral Care, McDonald’s North, and Southend City BID’s Street Rangers joined forces to tackle litter across the centre. The litter picking team collected 15 bags of rubbish, two brushes, a dustpan, and an empty cooking oil container.
Suzanne Gloyne, Southend City BID Manager, said: “We regularly organise litter picks to ensure our BID zone remains a clean and inviting space, and it’s always great to see our BID members enthusiastically taking part.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated, and to those that use the many bins around the city centre. There really is no excuse for littering - bin it and take pride in where you live, study, or work!”

With summer in full swing and visitor numbers on the rise, Southend City BID have also enhanced the High Street by festooning red, white, and blue bunting across the High Street alongside bright floral baskets, bringing a cheerful atmosphere to the city.
