Southend city centre will come alive with festive cheer on Saturday 14th November 2026 as Christmas in the City returns for a day packed with entertainment, family fun, and seasonal celebrations.

From 12pm, Southend High Street will be buzzing with activity, including a festive market, live performances, family entertainment, and plenty of Christmas magic. Organised by Southend City BID, the day will culminate in the much-anticipated Christmas Lights Switch On at 6pm with special guests and a spectacular fireworks display on the seafront at 7.30pm.

With thanks to Headline Sponsors, Southend Theatres, Christmas in the City promises to transform Southend city centre into a festive destination for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

The words "Christmas in the City" feature in white. There is a blue backdrop with images of presents and snowflakes dotted around. There is a large bauble with a yellow and pink star in the middle next to the words and outline of Southend buildings at the bottom.

Commenting on the event, Southend City BID Manager, Suzanne Gloyne, commented:

“Christmas in the City is one of Southend’s most anticipated community events, bringing everyone together to celebrate the start of the festive season.

We're proud to create an event that showcases the talent within Southend and encourages people to enjoy our city with a full day of festive fun.

We're also excited to welcome back Southend Theatres as our Headline Sponsors. Their continued support helps make this event possible, and we’re delighted to partner with them once again. Don’t miss the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs panto this Christmas!"

Oliver Stacey, Venue Director, Southend Theatres said:

“Christmas is always a fantastic time of year at Southend Theatres and what better way to kick the season off than with the Christmas in the City Light Switch On.

We are excited to be sponsors again and to bring the magic of the Cliffs Pavilion pantomime to the event, together with a little mischief from our festive show at the Palace Theatre. We can’t to see you all there.”

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy performances from schools, local choirs, theatre groups, and community organisations, alongside talented musicians performing on the main stage and at pop-up locations across the city centre.

Christmas in the City is set to once again showcase Southend's community spirit, creativity, and festive atmosphere, offering the perfect opportunity to shop, dine and celebrate in the heart of the city.
