Southend BID is looking for talented local performers
Back in January, No. 10 called for wild cards, weirdos and misfits to work in Downing Street. But why should they have all the fun?! Southend Business Improvement District (BID) is also looking for super-talented people to make this year’s Southend Festival the biggest and best yet.
Launched in 2017 as Essex’s answer to the famous Edinburgh Fringe, the Southend Festival is a smorgasbord of comedy, art, music, literature, performance and more.
Running from Friday 5 to Sunday 21 June 2020, this year’s event will feature a new format, with different aspects of the arts given special showcases throughout the jam-packed fortnight, and you could be part of it.
The BID team is putting a shout-out for local artists, musicians, poets, comics, actors, writers and dancers to get in touch and be part of this increasingly popular date in Southend’s cultural calendar.
“The Festival is back for a third year and we want this summer’s edition to be bigger, better and absolutely bursting with creative excellence. So, if you’re a local rising star or an established professional, we would love to hear from you,” says Southend BID Manager, Suzanne Gloyne.
“The community is at the heart of this event and the Southend Festival is an opportunity for people from the area to showcase their work and talent. Whether you’re a stand-up wanting to test new material, the next Stormzy or Dave, Mabel or Billie Eilish, a graffiti and street art whizz, a budding future star of stage and screen, or do an AMAZING shuffle dance while dressed as a giant panda, whatever you do, this is your chance to shine and perform in front of brilliant audiences across the town.”
If you think you fit the bill, click on www.thesouthendfestival.co.ukand tells us a little about what you do. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 31 March, so get your skates on, or that panda costume…
Once again the main categories are: Musicians (including DJs, singers, bands and solo performers), comedians, artists (including photographers, painters, performance, video and sculpture), dancers, magicians and even dog trick act, if you've got a talent and want to showcase it, then Southend BID would love to hear from you!
