BID backs Havens Hospices for 2020

Southend business organisation to support leading local charity

A South Essex charity providing palliative and supportive care to people living with complex and incurable conditions has received a boost from a local business organisation, after Southend Business Improvement District (BID) revealed Havens Hospices as its chosen charity for the year ahead.

Announcing the news, Southend BID Manager, Suzanne Gloyne said: “I am delighted to say that we will be championing Havens Hospices throughout the whole of 2020. The BID will help to share marketing and PR information about the charity’s raft of exciting and dynamic events and initiatives, such as the eye-catching Hares About Town project. We will use our popular social media platforms on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, plus the Visit Southend and dedicated BID websites to help generate awareness and publicity, whilst also ensuring that Havens Hospices are represented at key events, such as the Southend Festival, the autumn fireworks displays and the Christmas Lights Switch On.”

Suzanne adds: “I also think that the values of our two organisations are very much aligned, in that we are both working every day to make a positive difference in the local community.”

Havens Hospices is a much-loved charity providing palliative nursing and supportive care to adults and children living with complex or incurable conditions. Their services - located in three hospices; Fair Havens (Westcliff), Little Havens (Benfleet) and The J’s (a community-based hospice service) - also include helping families to cope with a loved-one’s illness, death and their own subsequent bereavement.

The ethos of Havens Hospices is to focus on the quality of life, caring for individual physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs. Importantly, they don’t charge a penny for any of their extensive range of care services. Consequently, their hospice care can only exist because of the support and generosity of the community, which is why Southend BID is keen to support Havens Hospices.

Sally Bridger, Community Fundraiser at Havens Hospices says: “We are hugely grateful to Southend BID for choosing Havens Hospices as their chosen charity for this year and appreciate their endorsement in helping us to raise awareness of the specialist care and support we provide for adults, children and their families.

“We must raise over £81,000 each week to be there for everyone who needs us and we look forward to working with the BID over the next 12 months.”
