Applications for Restart Grants Now Open

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council have now opened the application form for the April 2021 Restart Grants. On the 3rd March 2021, the Government announced the introduction of a one-off grant to support non-essential retail, hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care, and gym businesses in England. The Restart Grant scheme will provide non-essential retail premises with one-off grants up to £6,000 and hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym premises with one-off grants of up to £18,000. Non-essential business premises - up to £6,000


Businesses occupying hereditaments appearing on the local rating list with a rateable value of:

  • of exactly £15,000 or under on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £2,667

  • over £15,000 and less than £51,000 on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £4,000

  • of exactly £51,000 or over on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £6,000

Hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care, and gym business premises - up to £18,000


Businesses occupying hereditaments appearing on the local rating list with a rateable value of:

  • of exactly £15,000 or under on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £8,000

  • over £15,000 and less than £51,000 on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £12,000

  • of exactly £51,000 or over on 1 April 2021 will receive a payment of £18,000

This scheme is only for ratepayers of non-essential retail, hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym business premises and the business must still be trading on 1st April 2021. Your business will still be considered trading if it has been required to close due to government restrictions.


Applications will close on 30th June 2021 and payments will be made by 31st July 2021.
